UPDATE: 7.13.20: If you submitted a pre-adoption form prior to June 1st and are still looking to adopt, please email with the subject line: Still Looking to Adopt from NEASIf we don’t hear from you we will assume you found a furry family member elsewhere or are no longer looking to adopt at this time! If you are still looking, a member of our adoptions team will try to reach out in the near future to schedule an adoption appointment for you based on what you are looking for and pets available.

We are excited to announce that Northeast Animal Shelter has resumed adoptions by appointment only!

While we’re eager to get back to saving more lives, our first priority is for the health and safety of our staff and the public, so adoptions will be made by appointment only until further notice.  Only those with an appointment will be permitted inside the Shelter.

NEAS recognizes that many of you may wish to adopt a new best friend, however, individuals who have previously completed a pre-adoption form will be contacted first.

We have resumed our Saving Homeless Pets Across America transport program — rescuing cats and dogs from across the U.S. who have been patiently sheltering in place and are in need of forever homes. At first, we will be taking in a limited number of pets — with the intention of increasing the number transported over time.

If you’re interested in adopting a pet from NEAS, be sure to follow these steps:

Fill out a pre-adoption form found here. Once you’ve submitted it, please be patient! We will be reviewing forms in the order received. An adoption counselor will call you for a pre-adoption conversation if we have an appropriately matched pet for your household.

At this time, we are not able to call everyone who submits an adoption form. Bear with us as we work through the large volume of forms we have already received!

Check, as well as Facebook and Instagram, to browse for available animals. And if you have any questions about specific pets, please email

Please arrive at your adoption appointment on time. If you are more than 10 minutes late, your appointment may be forfeited.

In compliance with state law and for everyone’s safety, you will be required to wear a face mask, sanitize your hands (NEAS will provide sanitizer), and have your temperature taken before entering the building.

We are so touched by the outpouring of interest we have received from people wanting to adopt and foster homeless pets, and we greatly appreciate your patience while we make adjustments to the process — remember, this is new for all of us!

Words cannot express how grateful we are for our caring community! Thank you to everyone who supported us while we were closed — from making a donation to purchasing items from our Amazon Wishlist to supplying pet food for our Community Pet Food Bank. And a special heartfelt thank you to the foster families and staff who provided our pets with the very best of care.

We look forward to seeing you once again soon!

If you or others in your community are struggling to feed your pets, we’re here to help. Please contact Jamie at or 978-745-9888, ext. 362.
