At Northeast Animal Shelter, we know how devastating it is when a beloved pet is missing, and we want to do whatever we can to help.

If you have lost or found a pet, here is a list of things you should do:

1. Contact your neighbors and let them know your pet is missing or that you have found a pet. Pets usually stay close to home and can sometimes get shut in a neighbor's garage or shed.
2. Contact the police department in the city where you lost/found the pet and ask for the animal control officer. Also contact the animal control officers and animal hospitals in neighboring towns.
3. Call our shelter to fill out a Lost/Found report. We will check to see if the information you give us matches up with any of our previous reports.
4. Contact area newspapers - some newspapers place lost/found ads for free.
5. Create posters of your lost/found pet and post them everywhere - grocery stores, animal hospitals, shelters, pet supply stores, banks, coffee shops, gas stations, groomers, pet day care centers, schools, parks, police stations, libraries, and community bulletin boards.
6. Go online to websites like:
   • www.petfinder.com/classifieds/classifieds
   • www.pets911.com/services/lostandfound
   • www.findtoto.com

These sites let you list the pet for free. They also give suggestions on making posters and placing ads.

Some animals have microchips under their skin that contains a unique identification number registered to the pet's owner. If you bring a found animal to Northeast Animal Shelter, we will gladly use our microchip scanner, and if we find a microchip, we will help locate the owner.
