8th Annual Sato Rescue Reunion

On Saturday, August 25th the Northeast Animal Shelter will be hosting their 8th annual Sato Rescue Reunion to reunite the former street dogs of Puerto Rico with their rescuers. Download our flyer (PDF).

Salem, MA - Saturday August 25th, 2007– 11 am – 4 pm - Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the festivities at the Sato Rescue Reunion with the Northeast Animal Shelter at the grounds of Leslie’s Retreat Park in Salem, MA. Other local businesses will be joining our event. There will be raffles with lots of great prizes. Raffle tickets can be purchased at Northeast Animal Shelter starting August 7th, 2007 and will continue to be sold until August 31st, 2007. It is quite an emotional event and packed full of fun and surprises.

Did you know that there are thousands of dogs wandering the streets of Puerto Rico who are abandoned, abused and neglected. These dogs are called satos, which is Spanish slang for street dog or mutt.

Special people belonging to a group in Puerto Rico called Save A Sato contacted us in 1995 when they first heard of our Puppies Across America Program. They prayed that we could help their satos. Since this program has been so successful, we now help other rescue groups.

When these dogs arrive at Northeast Animal Shelter, some are eager for their next adventure, while others tend to be shy -- until they finally realize they have found lasting love, and then their real personality comes out!

The Northeast Animal Shelter encourages all pet owners to reach out to animals in need every day by:

  • Contributing time, money, or needed supplies to the Northeast Animal Shelter’s efforts to improve the lives of animals.
  • Equipping all pets with a reliable form of ID. Only about 15-20 percent of pets who end up in animal shelters are ever reunited with their families.
  • Spaying or neutering your pet. There are already too many animals and not enough loving homes to go around!

Visit the Northeast Animal Shelter today to meet your new best friend or visit www.northeastanimalshelter.org to find out more ways you can help animals in need. Please call 978 745-9888 for more information on this event.
