Harley was left at Northeast Animal Shelter when difficult economic times forced her owner to take a second job. The heartbroken cat lover had no choice but to admit that she could no longer care for Harley, a long-haired cat who was her constant source of joy. Despite her grief, she wanted Harley to live in a home where she could be properly cared for.
She knew Northeast Animal Shelter would love and care for Harley for as long as it took to find her a new home.
When seven-year-old Harley arrived at the Shelter, she showed how much she missed her mother by keeping to herself. The stress of adjusting to a new routine kept Harley from making a good impression on potential adopters. But after some extra love and attention from our volunteers – and a few days of play in our cat community room – Harley bonded with a male cat named Jay. Her spirits were on the rise!
Find out how Harley found a forever family, and helped her new friend as well! |

Northeast Animal Shelter is blessed by many passionate supporters. Hazel Ford was one of these dedicated friends.
Born in Salem, NH in 1918, Hazel graduated from Hunter College in New York and served our country in the U.S. Navy. She also worked for the Christian Science Publishing Company in Boston.
All her life, Hazel loved animals, particularly her beloved cat, Pretty. She was very generous to organizations dedicated to the care of cats, including Northeast Animal Shelter, which she supported for more than 15 years.
Before passing away earlier this year, Hazel made sure the Shelter would feel her love and support well into the future. See how she made a difference! |
