WINTER 2009
A Selfless Mother

ShebaNo one knows how long Ruby and her puppies were exposed to the elements before someone found them. They had been dumped right outside a veterinary clinic – so close to the care they needed – yet hours went by before someone heard them whimpering and immediately brought them inside.

In terrible pain from an injury to her hind leg, Ruby could have easily turned her back on her puppies… leaving them in the box to fend for themselves. But instead, this selfless mother nurtured and fed her little ones even at the expense of caring for herself.

After the struggling family had been brought inside, all were given food, water and immediate medical attention. The vet then discovered that Ruby's left hind leg had been broken long ago – most likely as the result of being hit by a car. The bone had fused back together improperly, causing her great agony.

If they could save her life, Ruby's rescuers knew Northeast Animal Shelter would find a forever family for this deserving mother…

To Whom It May Concern

ToriTori and her three kittens struggled to breathe. They didn't know where they were…only that they'd been crammed together into a crate — with woefully small air holes — and left outside Northeast Animal Shelter in the bitter cold. As the frost enveloped the plastic enclosure, they wondered if anyone would come to rescue them.

They'd had a home once — but all that had changed with the small note taped to the outside of their crate…

To Whom It May Concern:
I am sorry to do this but I can no longer care for them.
I do love them so please try to keep them safe and find nice homes. Thank You.

Now homeless, it was a life and death situation for Tori and her kittens!
