A New Leash on Life
The compassion that started at Northeast Animal Shelter thirty-one years ago has now blossomed into a state of the art facility that will set the standard for all shelters across America.
Our new building on Highland Avenue will allow Northeast Animal Shelter to continue our mission: rescuing homeless dogs across America and local homeless cats for many years to come.
Our expanded facilities will include:
- Dog and cat visiting areas
- Expanded medical isolation areas
- Kitten and puppy adoption area
- Dog runs and exercise areas
- Dog and cat cage-less living space
- Dedicated training room
- Computer terminals to help our clients find information on different breeds
- Humane Education/Community Resource Room
Of course, our larger space means we can accommodate more animals than ever before. Currently, Northeast Animal Shelter places 3,000 animals annually. We only have room for 57 cats or dogs at a time. While we're very proud of the 90,000 animals we've rescued so far, we must save even more. Our new home will allow us to do just that!
In addition to placing many more cats and dogs with loving families, we are also now able to expand our outreach into the community. We are developing multiple community outreach programs that include an expansive humane education initiative. This will help stop homelessness before it starts by teaching the next generations the importance of kindness towards animals. We'll also continue to travel to local nursing homes and senior centers with our animals to provide joy to those who need it most.

You Can Become Involved
We would be thrilled and honored to have the names of our closest friends and supporters prominently displayed in our new shelter. We have variety of space-naming opportunities, so that you or someone you know has the opportunity to become involved in this project. Special gifts may be paid over a period of up to five years. We hope that you will become involved in this exciting endeavor and help us to make this long-held dream a reality.
