To Whom It May Concern
Tori and her three kittens had a home once — but all that had changed with the small note taped to the outside of their crate…
To Whom It May Concern:
I am sorry to do this but I can no longer care for them.
I do love them so please try to keep them safe and find
nice homes. Thank You.
But worse then being suddenly homeless, Tori and the kittens now struggled to survive. Crammed together into the crate — with air holes woefully small — they had been left outside Northeast Animal Shelter in the bitter cold.
Tori's owner had no idea when someone would rescue them — nor did she anticipate that in her haste she’d put too many animals inside the carrier and that the air in the tiny box would become life-threateningly toxic.
Thankfully, the Shelter opened in time to save the precious cargo locked in the box. After reading the note, and taking very special care, the box was opened to reveal Tori and her three kittens fighting to stay alive. Shelter staff quickly wrapped them in warm towels fresh out of the dryer to stop them from shivering.
Tori and all the kittens were kind and loving, in search of compassion…and hope for a better life. They’d known that life once but it had been taken from them in a difficult time. Forced with a near impossible decision, their struggling owner had given up her pets.
But thanks to the compassionate care of our staff, Tori’s kittens recovered and, in no time at all, were adopted into homes with loving forever families. Tori became a candidate for our Mother Spay program — Northeast Animal Shelter's effort to prevent animal overpopulation and reduce the instances of homeless animals.
Tori quickly recovered from the standard surgery and is now waiting to be adopted into a forever family. We know it won’t be long at all — and in the meantime, we’re happy we could help such a loving animal.
Sadly, as the economy worsens, the rate of abandonment for pets like Tori and her kittens is rising dramatically. And as we struggle with our own economic challenges, let us not forget those who warm our hearts…with a purr or a paw they bring us joy, and remind us of the importance of companionship and family.
So please, make your gift to Northeast Animal Shelter today so that we can better serve the displaced animal victims of today's economic crisis.
