We made a trip to the Northeast Animal Shelter on August 15th (“Clear the Shelters Day”) and were hopeful to adopt a new best friend. We arrived just a few minutes after the shelter opened that day and it was already a packed house when we got there! As we made our way through the shelter checking out all the dogs, we realized that almost all of the blue cards had already been pulled! We were standing in front of an empty cage (feeling disappointed that we would not likely be going home with a new friend that day) and out comes Donatello (now Ralphie) who is placed in the empty cage we were standing in front of. Ralphie was such a love bug from the first moment we met him. He was very calm and kept leaning up against the cage door so we could pet him… we knew we had to take him home!

Ralphie was abandoned on a dirt road in Georgia when he was three months old but was fortunately rescued by a local rescue group and sent up north to NEAS. We are so happy to have him as a part of our family. Ralphie loves his new home and has made so much progress in the nearly three weeks that we’ve had him. He is very calm and obedient and loves to cuddle and have his belly rubbed. He loves going for walks around Castle Island and playing with other puppies, dogs, and people we cross paths with.

We are so thankful to NEAS for giving these dogs a second chance at a happy and healthy life, and we are especially thankful to them for uniting us with our beloved Ralphie 🙂
