Zoey: A Little Dog with a Big Surprise
Last fall, we helped a sweet little terrier mix who had run out of options. The rescue group who sent her was convinced that she would make a wonderful companion, given time and proper medical care. When Zoey arrived, we realized she had a bad case of mange – and, we discovered, she was pregnant!

Shortly after the pups were born, Zoey’s health took a sudden turn for the worse. She was a wonderful mother, but in her condition she couldn’t care for the puppies without undermining her own health. Thanks to some wonderful, caring and attentive foster parents, Zoey and her puppies are all healthy today… and enjoying life in their loving new forever homes.

Princess Finds Happily-Ever-After
One day, a woman arrived at the Shelter with a homeless cat she had been feeding. The poor animal was dirty, her fur was matted, and she walked slowly in an odd crouching position. A pelvic x-ray revealed the cause – the growth plates at the head of her femurs had slipped, making it difficult and painful to walk. The only solution was complex surgery.

Thanks to the support of our loyal donors, we were able to perform the surgery needed to ensure a pain-free future for this lovely cat, whom we named Princess. After extensive physical therapy, Princess is now healthy and she got her fairy-tale ending.

Virginia’s Gift
Virginia Wilcox was a beloved schoolteacher for over 40 years. A member of the local Historical Society and Garden Club, Virginia was also a devoted animal lover.

We were saddened by her death, but were honored to be named as a beneficiary in her will. Virginia’s love of animals will live on by benefiting the thousands of pets we are able to care for through her bequest. Learn more about including Northeast Animal Shelter in your will.
